Transparent Rewritable Film Manufacturers

Transparent Rewritable Film

Reversible imaging polyester film enabling monochromatic text and graphics creation via thermal or mechanical pressure without toner or ink.

Manufactured by Shanghai Hanker Industrial Co., Ltd.

Product Overview

Transparent Rewritable Film is an imaging substrate that forms visible marks through localized physical modification of its optical clarity. The film consists of a base PET layer coated with a proprietary opaque- transparent switching composition. When pressure or heat is applied, the coating transitions from a translucent light-scattering state to a transparent state, creating contrast visible against backlit or dark backgrounds. Erasure is achieved through uniform heat application, resetting the coating to its original scattering condition.

This technology enables paperless workflow for temporary labeling, reusable ID cards, and dynamic shelf labels. The PET carrier provides resistance to tearing and moisture, extending usable cycles beyond 200 write-erase iterations. The film requires no consumables (ribbon, ink, toner) for image formation, reducing per-use cost in high-volume rotation applications.

 Writing Best Practices

Ambient Temperature

Ideal imaging range 15°C-30°C. Cold film requires increased print energy; hot film may exhibit background fog.

Pressure Sensitivity

Film images under point pressure >5 N/mm². Avoid fingernail contact before use; store with interleaving.

Head Cleaning

Thermal printer heads require cleaning every 1,000 cycles. Dust accumulation causes non-imaging streaks.

UV Exposure

Prolonged direct sunlight (> 4h/day) may cause unintended erasure. Use UV-filtering overlays for outdoor applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common technical inquiries regarding imaging permanence, equipment requirements, and cycle limits.

How long does the written image remain visible?

Under office ambient conditions (23°C/50%RH, no direct UV), image contrast remains >80% of initial value for 12 months. Elevated temperatures (>35°C) accelerate reverse transition; written media should not be left on vehicle dashboards.

Can the film be written on both sides?

Standard construction is single-sided coating. Writing on the uncoated back side yields low contrast. Double-sided coated versions are manufactured for specific ID card applications but exhibit reduced total transmission.

What causes incomplete erasure?

Insufficient heat (temperature <105°C), insufficient dwell time, or non-uniform roller pressure. Older film (> 400 cycles) may require 5°C-10°C higher erasure temperature due to polymer relaxation.

Is the material compatible with RFID inlays?

Yes. The coating is non-metallic and does not detune HF (13.56 MHz) or UHF antennas. For embedded inlays, specify 188µm carrier to prevent read range degradation from hand capacitance.

Can I laminate this film to PVC cards?

Low-temperature lamination (<100°C) using pressure-sensitive adhesives is acceptable. Thermal lamination >110°C will erase any existing image and may permanently degrade the rewritable coating.
