Grey Backing PET Displays Materials

Polyester film with light-stabilized grey adhesive and opaque backing designed for electronic display lamination and backlight masking.

Manufactured by Shanghai Hanker Industrial Co., Ltd.

Product Overview

Grey Backing PET Displays Material is a multilayer composite film engineered for optical assembly applications where light blocking and dimensional stability are required. The construction comprises a clear polyethylene terephthalate (PET) carrier film coated with a permanent, pigmented grey adhesive and laminated to a release liner. The grey opacity serves to neutralize light transmission and provide uniform background coloration when viewed through transparent displays or touch panels.

This material is manufactured in ISO Class 7 cleanroom environments to minimize contamination risk during lamination. The PET substrate is selected for minimal shrinkage under thermal cycling, maintaining registration in capacitive touch sensor stacks. The adhesive system is formulated with low outgassing characteristics for sealed electronic assemblies.

Product Benefits

Material properties that provide functional advantages during display module assembly and long-term component operation.

Active Area Border Definition

Grey adhesive provides neutral density masking of display periphery without metallic reflectance or edge glow.

Bubble Entrapment Reduction

Microstructured adhesive channels allow planarization of screen-printed silver inks and circuit traces.

Die-Cut Edge Definition

PET carrier exhibits clean kiss-cut and through-cut edges without filamentation or adhesive stringing.

 Lamination Parameter Reference

Substrate Recommended Adhesive Thickness Roll Lamination Pressure Dwell Time (Full Bond)
Glass (soda lime) 25µm 0.3 - 0.5 MPa 24h @ 23°C
Polycarbonate 35µm 0.2 - 0.4 MPa 48h @ 23°C

 Handling & Processing

ESD Control

Surface resistivity 10^11-10^12 Ω/sq; use ionized air during liner removal to prevent particulate attraction.

Blade Selection

50µm carrier requires 25°-30° bevel blade. Excessive blade temperature (>40°C) causes adhesive deposition on blade face.

Cold Slitting

Slitting below 15°C induces adhesive shock and edge ooze. Maintain material temperature at 20°C-25°C during conversion.

Inspection Lighting

Use cross-polarized illumination to distinguish grey adhesive layer from PET carrier during QC inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clarification on technical specifications, material compatibility, and storage parameters for display-grade adhesives.

What is the function of the grey color versus black or white adhesives?

Grey pigmentation provides neutral density light absorption without the high opacity of carbon-black adhesives. It also presents a neutral color when viewed through semi-transparent mirror coatings, whereas black adhesive appears as a stark void.

Does this product contain conductive components for EMI shielding?

Standard Grey Backing PET is non-conductive. For EMI grounding paths, specify nickel-coated copper particle variants. The grey color in standard product is achieved with non-metallic pigments.

Can this material be used for direct bonding to OLED panels?

Yes, provided the PET carrier is specified as low-birefringence grade to prevent rainbow effects under polarized sunglasses. Standard PET exhibits retardation; request optical-grade isotropic PET.

How is optical density controlled across different production lots?

Grey adhesive is produced via gravure coating with in-line densitometry feedback. Carbon black loading is adjusted within ±0.5% to maintain OD tolerance. Certificates of Analysis include measured OD at 550nm.

What causes edge lift on ITO-coated glass and how is it prevented?

ITO surfaces exhibit surface energy below 38 dynes/cm after cleaning. Surface treatment via oxygen plasma or UV-ozone immediately prior to lamination raises surface energy >50 dynes/cm for adequate wet-out.
